I was also on CLG-7 in Ville, in 1965 & 1966, up until she came back to the states for decommissioning. I was in 10th Div., an FTM…how about you? These videos sure do bring back the memories!
It’s amazing to me that a lot of it still looks the same as it did in ‘63 when we played in the Tiki, Montana, & all the others—think we could still get $2.00 & all we could drink? TR
Thank god so few people see this videos of Villefranche. It will keep this adorable town almost unknown, and free from mass turism, like Monte Carlo or Cannes. Let’s keep it this way.
I spent many great days in Villefranche while I was in the Navy. My ship the Springfield CLG7 was home port there. We got to wear civilian clothes and learned the bars and clubs very well. We went to Nice often and went to the airport to went a Volkswagon and go up and down the coast.
It is a most beautiful city and area of France.
I not only can remember how I felt standing in some of the same places in the slide show~ I more vividly recall the smells and sights thanks to your brillant pictures. Rode the train to Nice from Menton for 6 months, and LOVED the stop in Villefranche just after sunrise.

I wonder if my old clothes are still at SY’s locker club in Villa.//PW
This is getting better all the time! TR
We could meet in Buffalo and go to Villa from there. Maybe they would let us use the Little Rock to get there.//PW
Sounds good to me! I’ll let you know when I get it all set up. TR
Since I don’t drink anymore, I would have to get at least $4.00//PW
